A Deluge at Silverstone - British GP Recap

Silverstone lived up to its unpredictable reputation as torrential rain turned the 2025 British Grand Prix into a slip-and-slide thriller. From the off, spray filled every corner and five drivers never saw the chequered flag. Franco Colapinto, Liam Lawson, Gabriel Bortoleto, Isack Hadjar and Kimi Antonelli all retired as grip evaporated beneath their wheels.

The Defining Moment
After multiple safety-car periods, the decisive moment came on lap 21. Oscar Piastri, keen to get back to racing speed, braked abruptly behind the safety car. Red Bull’s Max Verstappen had nowhere to go, took evasive action - and spun out at the restart, tumbling from P2 down to P9 on track. Verstappen showed real grit to claw back to P5 by the finish, but the damage was done.

Podium and Standouts
Lando Norris capitalised brilliantly. Inheriting the lead once Piastri served his 10-second penalty in the pits. Norris took a popular home victory - his first British GP win - fuelled by the roaring Landostand in the grandstands. Piastri was classified P2, visibly frustrated but still holding onto a slender championship lead.
Nico Hulkenberg delivered the story of the day by storming from P19 on the grid to claim P3, finally ending a 239-race podium drought and securing Sauber’s first top-three finish since 2012!

Hamilton Watch
Lewis Hamilton’s magical run of home podiums came to a halt as he crossed the line in P4, just behind Hulkenberg. It was his best dry-line grip effort all afternoon, but not enough to keep the home fans on their feet.
Championship Picture
- Drivers’ Championship: Oscar Piastri still leads but sees his buffer slashed to just 8 points over Lando Norris after 12 of 24 races.
- Constructors’ Championship: McLaren’s one-two at Silverstone extended their advantage to a whopping 460 points, with Ferrari trailing in second on 222 points.
A special podium deserved special trophies! 🏆
